IM Ketamine Treatment Program

How the Program Works

Ketamine treatment is an in-office treatment option that may be used for eligible patients with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), recurrent, severe, without psychotic features (F33.2).

Treatment begins with an initial consultation and evaluation with one of our Nurse Practitioners. During this appointment, the provider will review the patient's symptoms, medical history, current medications, and treatment goals to determine whether ketamine treatment may be appropriate.

An individualized treatment plan will be developed based on the patient's clinical needs and response to treatment.

Insurance & Pricing

The initial consultation and treatment planning visits are normally billed through the patient's insurance when applicable.

Ketamine treatments are cash-pay services.

• Initial ketamine treatment: $175

• Continued ketamine treatments: $100 per treatment

The initial treatment fee includes the medication, supplies used during treatment, Medical Assistant consultation, required urine testing, and monitoring during the treatment.

Medication

Ketamine is administered as an intramuscular (IM) injection in our office.

The medication is obtained through a specialty pharmacy and delivered directly to the clinic. Medication is stored and dispensed by the office according to clinic policies and applicable medication-handling requirements.

Treatment Schedule

The frequency of ketamine treatments will be determined by the prescribing provider based on the patient's individual treatment plan.

Treatments may be scheduled weekly or every other week, depending on the provider's recommendations and the patient's response to treatment.

The treatment schedule may be adjusted as clinically appropriate.

What to Expect During Treatment

Upon arrival, the patient will check in with the clinical staff and complete any required assessments or testing.

For the initial treatment, a Medical Assistant will review the treatment process, clinic policies, expectations, and safety instructions with the patient.

Ketamine will then be administered as an intramuscular injection by appropriately trained clinical staff.

Patients will remain in a designated treatment room throughout the observation period. A Medical Assistant will monitor the patient for approximately one hour following treatment and will monitor vital signs, including blood pressure.

Patients must meet the clinic's discharge requirements before they are permitted to leave.

Patients cannot leave the clinic until their blood pressure and overall condition are considered acceptable by the clinical staff.

Urine Testing

A 14-panel urine drug screen is required at the initial treatment and may be completed monthly thereafter, according to clinic policy.

Urine testing is used as part of the clinic's safety and monitoring process.

Important Patient Requirements

Because ketamine may cause temporary effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, changes in perception, or impaired coordination, patients should follow all safety instructions provided by the clinic.

Patients should:

• Arrange transportation home following treatment.

• Avoid driving or operating machinery after treatment until they have fully recovered and as directed by their provider.

• Follow all pre-treatment instructions.

• Remain in the treatment area for the required monitoring period.

• Notify clinical staff of any unusual or concerning symptoms during treatment.

• Follow the treatment plan established by their prescribing provider.

Patient Education & Support

Before beginning treatment, patients will receive education regarding the medication, treatment expectations, potential side effects, safety requirements, and clinic policies.

Our clinical team will monitor patients throughout each treatment and communicate with the prescribing provider regarding treatment response, concerns, and any significant changes.
