Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

Non-invasive, medication-free brain stimulation for depression and other approved indications.

(Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) Treatment Program

How the Program Works

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment option that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain associated with mood regulation.

TMS may be recommended for patients who are experiencing depression and have not received adequate improvement from other treatment options.

Treatment begins with an initial consultation and evaluation with one of our Nurse Practitioners. During this appointment, the provider will review the patient's symptoms, medical history, current medications, and treatment history to determine whether TMS may be an appropriate treatment option.

If TMS is recommended, an individualized treatment plan will be developed based on the patient's clinical needs.

Insurance & Prior Authorization

The initial consultation and treatment planning visits are normally billed through the patient's insurance when applicable.

When a provider refers a patient for TMS, our team will work with the patient's insurance company to obtain the required prior authorization.

Please note: The authorization process can take several weeks depending on the patient's insurance company and individual circumstances. Treatment cannot begin until the necessary authorization requirements have been completed.

Treatment Schedule

TMS treatment is typically provided 5 days per week for approximately 5 weeks, followed by a taper during the sixth week.

The exact treatment schedule and number of sessions may vary depending on the patient's individual treatment plan and the recommendations of the prescribing provider.

Because TMS is generally administered on a frequent schedule, patients should plan to attend their scheduled appointments consistently to receive the full benefit of the treatment program.

What to Expect During Treatment

During each appointment, the patient will be seated comfortably in a designated treatment area.

A trained TMS Technician will position the patient and place the TMS coil at the prescribed treatment location. The TMS machine will then deliver a series of magnetic pulses according to the patient's individualized treatment settings.

Patients remain awake and alert during treatment and are able to communicate with staff throughout the session.

The TMS Technician will monitor the patient during treatment and address any discomfort or concerns that may arise.

Patients may experience sensations such as tapping or knocking on the scalp during treatment. Some patients may experience temporary scalp discomfort or headache.

Patient Monitoring & Safety

Patient safety is a priority throughout the TMS treatment process.

Before treatment begins, staff will review relevant medical information and ensure that the patient's treatment settings are consistent with the provider's prescribed protocol.

Patients should notify the TMS Technician or provider of any changes in medications, medical history, or other relevant health information.

Patients should also report any discomfort, unusual symptoms, or concerns during treatment so that the clinical team can appropriately address them.

Before your Appointments

Patients should arrive on time for each scheduled treatment and follow any instructions provided by the clinic.

Patients should have at least 4 hours of sleep before treatment

Patients should have a small snack before treatment, and take medication normally.

Patients should notify the clinic of any significant changes in medications or medical history before treatment.

Patient Education & Support

Before beginning TMS, patients will receive education regarding the treatment process, expectations, potential side effects, safety requirements, and clinic policies.

Our clinical team will monitor treatment progress throughout the program and communicate with the prescribing provider regarding the patient's response to treatment.

Our goal is to provide a safe, structured, and supportive treatment environment while helping patients work toward improved mood and overall mental health.
